Digital Agenda June 22: What is Sound?

Standard:
MS-PS4-2. Develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.

Objective: 
Students will explain how sound works, and how it travels differently through different types of matter by completing a helping quadrant with a 3 or better according to the success criteria.

2. Collaborative Work

1. Create an instrument with your group using any of the materials, and answer the following questions:

1. How did you design you instrument?
2. What type of sound(s) does your instrument make?
3. How does your instrument produce these sounds?
4. How do you think sound works?


2. Create a group definition for sound.


3. Complete the "What is Sound? Helping Quadrant" with your group members.

Helping Quadrant Steps:
1. Review the Directions, Thinking Questions, and success criteria.
2. Read and annotate the article, and answer the thinking questions.
3. Individually complete your prepped responses.
4. Share your prepped responses with your group members.
5. Complete the extension activity.
